Thank you for those who booked a time to meet with me.
Here is what we have been learning this week!
Literacy: This week, grade 3's learned about the suffixes -ed/or/ar and -ist! These suffixes describe an action for which a noun is performing (i.e. paint-painter, write-writer, educate- educator etc.), and they describe a profession (i.e, guitarist, dentist, stylist etc.). On Monday, students will have a check in to show me what they know about the suffixes we've learned so far.
Math: Regrouping and borrowing with addition and subtraction was our focus this week. We explored three different strategies and grade 3's are figuring out which strategy works for them! Next week, we will be learning through a variety of math centres to sharpen their skills. At home, practicing skip counting forward and backwards by 10s, 100s, and by single digits will be helpful to support their subtraction when using expanded form as their strategy.
Science: We finished our unit on Matter. We discussed reversible and permanent changes in our world. For example, cooking is a permanent change and zipping/unzipping a zipper is reversible. Next week, we will be playing Jeopardy labs to review the concepts we have learned to prepare for our test!
Social Studies: Grade 3's logged onto the chrome books and started to learn about historical sites in Alberta.
Visual Art: We completed our Rocky Mountain landscapes.
Thoughtful Tuesday: Grade 3's were very excited to send secret stickies to our readers at NLS. They wrote kind and encouraging messages and then stuck them in a library book. Some lucky readers will get their kind secret sticky.
Enjoy your weekend! Stay warm and cozy!
