June 15th- 19th

What is coming up for our LAST WEEK of school...

  • June 24th: Play Day (See information below)
  • June 25th: Spirit Day- PJ and Movie Day
  • June 26th: LAST DAY OF SCHOOL! (Please bring a bag for their stuff incase their back pack is not large enough)

  • Play Day is Wednesday. Dress for varied weather and bring a water bottle.  (Students can come with sunscreen on but teachers won’t be helping apply it here.) 


  • On Play Day we are providing Freezies. PARENTS THAT DO NOT WANT THEIR CHILD TO HAVE ONE MUST EMAIL MRS. SCHU and can send an alternative treat for their child to enjoy that day



What we were up to this week...

Literacy: This week grade 3's were preparing for grade 4. Students made a list of questions and wrote a letter for our future grade 4 teacher. We also had the opportunity to visit a grade 4 class to ask our questions to the experts- grade 4 students! 

Math: We practiced our number sense skills through  centres. Grade 3's practiced, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division skills!

Science: We continued our learning about coding. Ask your child about the games, Scratch Jr. and Lightbot! Grade 3's also had the opportunity to learn about coding as a career from a University student. 











Social Studies: We compared the difference between volunteering and charity.

*Important*

On June 18th students will be participating in learning and making Bannock.  If you do NOT want your child to eat Bannock, please email me BEFORE the day itself.  If your child IS allowed to eat Bannock, no action is required on your part.
We will provide a Gluten Free option for those that require Gluten Free. Please inform me if your child requires the Gluten Free option. 
Bannock ingredients include: 
Flour, baking powder, salt, water, milk, and oil

A message from Mrs. Brinson about bussing next year...

Here is what we have been learning this week...

Literacy: Our focus this week was non fiction text features. Student's were feature detectives and searched for these features in non fiction books and matched them to the examples. Then grade 3's created their own non fiction text entitled 'All About Me', where they created their own text features. We are still working on this, pictures to come next week! 

Math: We wrapped up algebra. Next week we will be reviewing number sense concepts (money, adding, subtracting, multiplication and division) through centre activities. 

Science: We explored computer science by making secret messages with codes, and coding mice! 










Social Studies: Grade 3's learned about charity and the act of donating. 

Visual Art: Our Wet Felting was so much fun! Look in your child's backpack to see.

Here is what we have been learning this week...

Literacy & Science: For literacy this week we worked on our creating our good copy of our Diary story. We also read, "The Idea Jar", and created our own idea jars for when students get stuck with story writing ideas. Grade 3's reviewed story elements and wrote their own story-with no prompt for their LAST best writing. Our new AND last set of word wizards are: now, through, picture, near, enough, leave, four, always, other, & being. 

Math: This week the focus has been on solving algebra equations. For example, 9 x y = 63. We will continue this next week. 



Social Studies: Together we learned about actions that help improve other peoples quality of life, and what volunteering means. Ask your child about the Volunteer Bingo they are completing!

Visual Art: This week, grade 3's created a still life- a bowl of fruit. This was requested and is connected to our classroom novel, "The One and Only Ivan".

Here is what we have been learning this week...

Literacy: Did you know that said is dead? Not actually, but grade 3's learned about all the different words to use instead of said to make their writing more interesting. Ask your child what are some other words to replace said! Grade 3's also continued to write their Diary of a _____ animal story. 

Math: This week in math was about estimating while measuring using benchmarks, identifying and superimposing (layering to compare) angles! Students explored angles by measuring all the angles in the letters of their names. They completed this unit by having a SWYK today. Next week, we will be learning about algebra.  















Science: Grade 3's continued on with their Diary of a _____ stories! 

Social: We started a new unit about citizenship. The focus this week was about what a citizen is, what makes a good citizen and quality of life. 

Visual Art: We are still working on our angle art.





Health and Wellness: We started to talk about safety. Your child's homework is to ask You for phone numbers and home address. This can help them in a situation if they ever get lost! 

Physical Education: Grade 3's love gymnastics!
