Here is what we learned this week...

Literacy: This week grade 3's learned about different book genres. Our classroom turned into "Schu's Book Cafe", and students had a taste of five different genres- mystery, historical fiction, myths & legends, non fiction, and realistic fiction. We also shared out circle stories to friends in Ms. Muma's class.

Math: We started a new unit this week- measurement. Students learned about the two measuring systems- Metric and Imperial. Ask your child what measurement units are used in each! They also learned about perimeter and explored it by measuring objects in the classroom.

Science: Grade 3's started constructing a group project. They created posters that will reflect their learning about Indigenous peoples connection to the land, animals and seasons. More updates in this project coming soon.

Social Studies: We completed our unit on Government systems! Phew!

Physical Education: Grade 3's played badminton games.

Field Trip to the Hangar Flight Museum: Here is some learning that stuck with our class..."Without wings an airplane can't go up"- Amal, "There is licensed number for the plane on its wing"- Layan, "The glider plane has no engine"- Fazal, "People who built planes looked at birds to help them design"- Malia.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Here is what we have been learning this week!

Literacy: This week grade 3's participated in a school wide write. Students wrote a story to match the prompt below. This was a great introduction to story writing, which we will go more into depth with next week. We also continued to listen to our class novel "The One and Only Ivan". Our new Word Wizard words are: until, time, mother, over, place, right, follow, turn, once, & face.

Math: 24 hour time was our main focus this week. Grade 3's were given optimal time to practice reading time through centres. I can't wait to see how they did on their SWYK. Next week, grade 3's will be starting to learn about measurement.

Science: Student's learned about protecting plants and animal and they shared what they knew about living systems by creating a PWIM. Next week, we will be starting a big project where grade 3's will be connecting their understanding of living systems to how First Nations communities interact with the land, animals, plants and the seasons.

Social Studies: We learned about government symbols, such as the Alberta Coat of Arms. Grade 3's also created their own Coat of Arms to represent themselves. Ask your child was symbols are the Alberta Coat of arms, and what these symbols represent.

Physical Education: We have been preparing for Badminton by practicing with different racquets.

Have a great weekend and enjoy the weather!
