Here is what we have been learning this week.

Literacy: We have been learning about circle plots- how a story starts the same way that it ends. Together we read a few books from the "If You Give A Mouse A Cookie" series to make connections. Grade three's also took ideas from these stories to create their own circle story books. This was a very exciting project and they cannot wait to bring them home to show you their book. Word Wizard words will continue and next week students will have their spelling challenge. These words are: around, point, second, important, first, about, watch, year, plant, which.

Math: Telling time on digital and analog clocks has been our focus this week. We learned the parts of an analog clock, reading time and the difference between the short hand and long hand and which time they read, and reading time as 'past' and 'to' (ex. quarter past____, or 20 to _____). Next week we will focus on 24 hour time. Please check your child's back pack for some homework! Grade three's are to draw the hands on the clocks to represent the time below. I can't wait to see their homework on Monday.

Science: This week we learned about animal diets, how their diets connect to the order of the food chain, and how animals interact with their environment and stimuli by using their senses.

Social Studies: Municipal and Provincial government was the topic this week. Ask you child what the responsibilities are for those in Municipal government and Provincial government!

Health & Wellness: We participated in our nutrition workshop. Grade three's learned about healthy eating through the food guide, the difference between whole foods, processed and ULTRA processed foods. They helped prepare a snack and ate a yummy parfait!

Field Study & Thoughtful Tuesday: We gave our thanks to Mother Earth (Na'a) by showing reciprocity with a tobacco offering. Students sat in a sharing circle, expressed their thanks for what Mother Earth provides for us, and gifted tobacco back to the Earth. Some thanks included: Thank you for.....life, nature, the food that we eat, sunny days, and the grass.

Music: Grade three's learned the A cord on the ukuleles.

Have a wonderful weekend!
