Jan. 5th- 9th

Welcome back! I hope that everyone had a great winter break and holiday!

Where is what is coming up this month!

  • Jan. 22nd: Fun Lunch- Mr. Pretzel & OPA
  • Jan. 30th: No School- Non-instructional Day
Important: On Wednesday, a form was sent home regarding permission for your child to be a part of a sexual health lesson. This topic will be discussing how families dynamics can look different (i.e., different caretakers/ parents). Please send in your opt-in or opt-out letter by January 27th. If you have any questions, feel free to email me or Mrs. Brinson.

Here is what we have been learning this week!

Literacy: This week, grade three's interviewed each other about their winter break, then they wrote a report summarizing their partners winter break. We also started to learn about prefixes. This week it was the prefix "un". Next week, we will be learning about paragraph and prefixes re, dis, and in/im.

Math: We wrapped up our addition and subtraction unit by practicing estimating sums and differences; and practicing related facts with addition and subtraction. Next week, we will be starting multiplication. To support your child with multiplication, practice skip counting and memorizing multiplication facts to 12.

Science: Grade three's explored the four different types of contact forces, such as, friction, tension, applied, and elastic/spring. Next week, we will be discussing simple machines!

Social Studies: Did you know that Alberta is the only province in Canada that has recognized Métis settlements? We explored Métis culture and Francophone communities in Alberta. Grade three's learned some words in french and designed a Francophone community. Next week we will be discussing early settlers of Alberta.

Health & Wellness: Our focus this week was creating goals for the new year. Student's created lists for "more of this, less of that" for 2026. They also picked a one word goal to live by for the new year.

Visual Art: We created a Métis sash! Ask your child why these sashes are significant to Métis culture! If your child wishes to continue practicing making their sash, see the video below!

Enjoy your weekend!
