What's coming up this month.
- Jan. 22nd: Fun Lunch- Mr. Pretzel & OPA
- Jan. 30th: No School- Non-instructional Day
Here is what we were learning this week...
Literacy: This week we learned about eh prefixes re, dis, and in/im. Grade three's were also introduced paragraph writing. Writing a paragraph will be our expectation until the end of the year. Ask your child how a hamburger is related to paragraph writing! Next week we will be starting "The Word Nerds". Students will be given 10 words a week to practice, and then every Friday, they will be given a spelling challenge. You can support your child at home by practicing these spelling words with them. Our first set of words are: because, what, there, goes, would, they, when, little, who, used.
Math: We started to learn about multiplication and division. We discussed how they are related, and began to start using equal groups as a strategy to solve equations.
Science: Our focus this week was simple machines (i.e., levers, inclined plane, wedge, screw, wheel & axle, and pulley). We made connections to how we may use simple machines everyday.
Social Studies: Ask your child the difference between emigration and immigration. We discussed how our different cultures and traditions helped shape communities in Alberta.
Health and Wellness: Grade three's demonstrated how to solve conflict through role play.
Visual Art: We started a "one point perspective" art project. Today we completed the background and next week we will complete it. Stay tuned.
Physical Education: The skill this week was basketball.
