March 16th- March 19th

 Happy Spring! 

Where is what's coming up!

  • April 24th: No School- Non-Instructional Day

Here is what we have been learning this week:

Literacy: This week students applied their understanding of figurative language through a four square model. Grade 3's also learned about poetry and we wrote limericks! When we return from spring break, grade 3's will be learning how to write haiku poems. We will also have our spelling challenge. Continue to practice these words: think, two, play, three, after, our, does, these, school, saw.










Math: We wrapped up geometry by practicing through geometry centres, and creating our polygon pets! Our next unit with be fractions and time. 
 
Science: We drew an Albertosaurus! Grade 3's completed their first "Brain Dump" where they took everything they learned from our Earth Systems unit, and creatively displayed it onto paper. 














Physical Education: Student's learned about to play 9 square!

Mar. 9th- 13th

*Important: For conferences next week, please notes that our elevators are currently broken. If you are someone who requires the use of the elevator for mobility reasons, please let me know and I can arrange an alternative meeting place. 

Here is what we have been learning this week:

Literacy: This week the grade three's learned about figurative language. We created, similes, metaphors, hyperboles, and personifications. Next week, we will learn how to implement figurative language in our writing and with creating poetry. Word Wizards will continue to practice their words until Thursday: think, two, play, three, after, our, does, these, school, saw. 











Math: Comparing polygons, transformations (i.e., rotations, reflections, and translations), and centres were our focus this week. Next week we will wrap up our geometry unit, and have our SWYK on Thursday. 















Science: Grade three's learned about the layers of soil, fossils that lie within the soil, and dinosaurs that roamed Alberta. We also had the most fun being Palaeontologists. 












Social Studies: We stared a new unit that will focus on Alberta's natural resources and Alberta's government. Ask your child what the three levels of government are AND who is the leader of each! 

Indigenous Learning: Grade three's really enjoyed our time learning from Chantal our Knowledge Keeper that visited NLS this week. Student's learned about the medicine wheel, the animals that represent each section, words in Cress, and the legend of turtle island; all through oral story telling. Grade three's also learned a new song and drumming techniques.
